"Boycott Chinese Products or Ban Chinese Products".......is it the right solution?.

People are obsessed to ban the Chinese products in India by the 15 June LAC incident. But this incident is not the main rationale of boycott China. During the conflict between India and Pakistan in August–September 2016 after the Uri attack, the supporting stand of China towards Pakistan led to a campaign to boycott Chinese products in India.

First, we need to know about trade between India and China. China is India's largest trading partner. In 2010-11, India export $ 14.1 billion Indian products to China and India import $ 43.5 billion Chinese products. We can see how huge is this mismatch. China exports 3 times more to India than what India exports to China. This difference is called 'trade deficit', which is not good for our country. The trade deficit was low in 2010 but it has been increasing over ten years. Don't think that our country is only in a loose situation. China is exporting more than what it is importing from India. That's why China is in a 'trade surplus' situation with India. It is an unroll of the 'trade deficit' situation. Staying in a trade surplus situation gives our country some advantages. China is more dependent on our country because China exports more than in our country. If our government will increase prices and taxes of the Chinese products then China has to pay more.

Now the question is, can we ban Chinese products and how can we boycott Chinese products?. If our government ban on Chinese products then thinks about what will happen to the products that were imported from China. Our country has to suffer a heavy cost because of it. Where will those products come from after banning?. In fact, according to WTO(World Trade Organization), no country can ban on trade with another country even if there is an ongoing military conflict with that country. So it is not possible to ban Chinese products.

We can see, imposing a ban is not the solution. The solution is to replace the Chinese products. But using made in India products isn't that solution. The Chinese products were coming at the cost of billion dollars. All the products couldn't possible to manufacture in India because some technologies or some sources are not available in our country. So, what can we do now?. We can replace Chinese products with other countries' products. For example, the products that India imports from China, 41% of the products are mechanical and electrical equipment. Mechanical and electrical types of equipment are highly manufactured in Taiwan. So, we can replace these products with Taiwan's products.

We can also manufacture some products in our own country. In fact, in this boycott China situation, some people already come towards manufacturing products in our own country. For example, hydroxychloroquine, which use against 'malaria' and also it's also useful against COVID 19. India is the largest manufacturer of this drug and our country exported 15 million pills to the US. The raw materials to manufacture this drug, are come from China. But during the Coronavirus time, China suddenly increases this raw material price. So now India builds a complete process to manufacture this drug with raw materials also. And even some local people are taking some good steps to make India self-dependent. For example, Mahua flower from the Southeastern, which is used to make desi liquor. The tribal women in Chhattisgarh used this flower to make alcohol. And that alcohol is used as a hand sanitizer when India was struggling to get enough supplies of hand sanitizers.

Making boycott China movement successful we need to apply these kinds of steps. At last, I would like to say that this initiative to replace the Chinese products with other countries' products needs to be taken by the Indian companies and traders. Neither government nor citizens and consumers can do much in this issue. Because in the present scenario almost 85-90% of the market is full with made in China products. We have no other option except to buy those products. So that the companies and traders need to understand that we as consumers will not mind paying a little more for a product made in India, made in Taiwan, and made in Japan instead of made in China. But we as an Indian citizen and consumers should try to use our country products as much as possible. We should put pressure on the companies and traders and make them realize that if they sell only the Chinese products then we are not going to buy them. India will self-dependent in one day.
